Isuzu Jumps on Board to Support Use of B20 Biodiesel

The National Biodiesel Board praised Isuzu Commercial Truck of America, Inc. at its semi-annual board meeting in Washington D.C. earlier this month as the latest Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to announce its support for the use of B20 biodiesel blends.  Isuzu has confirmed all new 2011 and forward model year diesel engines are and will be compatible with use of up to 20% biodiesel blends (B20).  This includes the four N-Series truck models and the new Isuzu Reach commercial van and is particularly significant because Isuzu Commercial Truck is the Asian manufacturer to approve B20 for United States market spec engines.

“Our customers at Isuzu Commercial Truck of America have been asking for approval to use B20 in our products in the U.S. for many years,” said Isuzu Commercial Truck’s Retail Marketing Manager Brian Tabel.  “We are really happy to now turn that request into a reality and bring B20 biodiesel capability to the U.S. market.”

Isuzu’s announcement of B20 support is the result of three key factors:  Increasing consumer demand for the fuel, extensive research on B20 biodiesel blends by Isuzu engineers in both Japan and the United States and improved biodiesel fuel quality and support in the U.S. under the assertion of ASTM D7467 (the American Society of Testing and Materials specifications for B6-B20 biodiesel blends).

At least 800 million gallons of biodiesel is expected to be produced in 2011 to meet requirements under the EPA’s Renewable Fuel Standard program making it the largest year to date for the U.S. biodiesel industry.  It is the only fuel produced in commercial scale volumes in the U.S. qualifying as an Advanced Biofuel under the EPA definitions.

The cost-effectiveness and sustainability of biodiesel as a domestic product made from a growing assorted mix of feedstocks and it’s renewability was yet another factor appealing to Isuzu Commercial Truck when considering powertrain options to meet the stringent United States emissions standards.

“In looking for ways to lessen our environmental footprint while also improving fuel economy, we realized that our customers can much more easily afford a high fuel-efficiency, B20-compatible diesel vehicle running on biodiesel blends than some of the very expensive hybrid vehicles out there,” said Tabel.  “Biodiesel just makes sense.

Worst Christmas Gifts for Preschool Boys – Every parent should get to unwrap their own bottle of Excedrin migraine to go along with the presents their children will unwrap this holiday season. Preschool toys seem to make the grade as some of the most obnoxious toys that require you to want to pull out your hair–and your pill bottle. Just trying to get the toys out of the box requires a degree nowadays. Many toys now require you to untie twist ties, cut rubberbands, and even use a screwdriver to get a toy out of the box. And a whiny, excited preschooler hovering over you doesn’t help it go any faster. Then you have to endure the torture of listening to the toy run up and down the hallway, bang into walls, and make all sorts of obnoxious sounds for hours and hours on end. This stage is hard! You get so excited that they are finally old enough to enjoy some of your old favorite toys, and even a lot of the newer ones they’ve got out nowadays. Well, this year we’re helping parents out by giving you the top five gifts to not give your preschool boy for Christmas.

These overly obnoxious toys make the grade as some of the coolest toys that just make too much noise. Boys love these monster trucks and cars. The vehicles drive forward and backward but come with a host of other obnoxious buttons that send a parent into insanity. The buttons for the lights are okay, as well as the buttons to move the vehicle back and forth. It’s the buttons that allow your child to play some of the most obnoxious rock, hip hop, and metal tunes over and over and over that drive you insane! While most of the vehicles come with an off switch for the music, our three year old quickly located it, and would turn it back on. The volume on the vehicles is way too loud, and we wish they would do a better job of hiding the music switch. On the monster truck, the wheels had a circular ring that attached to the tire to give the vehicle more traction. Our boys pulled them off constantly, and we would find them all over the house. Glue fixes the problem, but by the time you figure out where these black rings all over your house are from you just get irate and wish the manufacturer would’ve done it in the first place to save you the trouble of gluing them back on only to have the boys pull them off again! If the manufacturer had taken the time to glue them on, they probably would never wonder how to pull them off in the first place!
