Entries for the 2011 Royal Melbourne Show Horses in Action Competition will close on Friday, June 24 and the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria is encouraging exhibitors to enter online at www.rasv.com.au to save $20 each person on nominations.And in welcome news for riders, prizemoney has been increased, even if it will still go nowhere near to covering the costs of travel, parking and stabling.
This years show will run from Saturday, September 24 to Tuesday, October 4 at Melbourne Showgrounds, and the RASV has partnered with Equestrian Australia to present a new class, Exhibition Eventing.

In what is sure to be a spectacle, Exhibition Eventing is best described as the equestrian version of 20-20 cricket. It brings the skill and excitement of eventing onto the main arena in a shortened format involving a short dressage component followed by a course of cross-country and showjump fences ridden against the clock.
The first competition of this nature was held at Aprils Sydney Royal Easter Show and was won by Olympic silver medallist (Beijing, 2008) Shane Rose.
The winner of the event at the Royal Melbourne Show will join Rose to compete at the inaugural Equestrian Grand Final to be held at EQUITANA Sydney, in November.
The Horses in Action program will have an international flavour in 2011, with the panel including Scotlands Ian Douglas.
A prominent Clydesdale breeder and judge, Mr Douglas has judged across the United Kingdom at major events including the 2010 Royal Highland Show, 2010 Aberdeen Show and Perth Winter Fair.
The Horses in Action program offers a valuable benchmark for equestrian exhibitors, and we again expect the best horses and riders from around Australia to compete for a prized blue ribbon and an increased prize pool, Ms Jeffery said.
Increasing by $10 000, the prize pool has been distributed across the entire competition, and prize money has been introduced for the first time to the Australian Stock Horses, Tradesman and Delivery and Riding Sections.
