Twickenham mother sticking to her charitable plan
A single mother from Twickenham has set herself an ambitious challenge - to launch a new business and use it to raise £50,000 for charity over the next year.
Sue Burton, 46, of Gothic Road, is currently in the process of launching the ‘peel 2 save’ product. Peel 2 save is a booklet containing discount vouchers that will be distributed in the Richmond and Twickenham area and, Ms Burton intends to donate 50 per cent of every sale to local charities.
She said: “The card will be sold by charities and non-profit organisations, they will do the sales drive selling it for £10 and the charity then gets 50 per cent of that.
“It seemed like such an easy way to give people something back.“ The pocket-sized card is filled with 64 stickers each offering a different discount deal at a local restaurant, bar or business.
Businesses can put their offers in the booklet for free and customers then exchange the stickers for anything from two for one deals to free coffee with their meals.
Miss Burton said: “There will be up to £300 worth of savings on meals etc [in each booklet].
“It would be filled with local businesses at no cost to them, and also the charity would receive money from the card sale whether it’s a school, charity, sports club or other non-profit making organisation.”
The entrepreneurial mother said she was inspired to launch Peel 2 save card after seeing how successful the American franchise had been when it launched in the UK, in Solihull, earlier this year.
She said she wanted to have a job where she would be able to work while her six-year-old daughter Grace was at school and still be there to drop her off and pick her up everyday, while doing something good for the community.
Miss Burton, whose daughter attends St James’ Catholic School, Twickenham, added that as a parent she had seen how hard fundraising for non-profit making organisations could be and thought selling these cards could be something all the students could get involved with while raising funds for a good cause.
She added: “My aim is for the local charities in this area to benefit, my goal is to raise £50,000 in a year.”
