The Elks Opera House in Prescott is now a drop-off location for the United Food Bank. According to Elks Business Manager Colette Greenlee, there are many fires destroying much of the land in the state and several families have already lost their homes. Donations of such items as dry cereal, canned chili or beef stew, canned tuna or chicken, peanut butter, pinto, kidney or refried beans; canned or dried milk, rice and pasta and small size boxes to transport goods are needed. Drop off hours are 10 to 2 Tuesday through Friday at the Elk’s Opera House, located on East Gurley Street. Food Bank representatives will be picking up donated items on a regular basis and distributing them to shelters and fire fighter posts across the state.

Those preparing for summer or fall weddings should choose a photographer carefully. The local Better Business Bureau is suggesting brides and grooms schedule interviews with 2 or 3 photographers to determine the types of services they offer, the quality of their work and related fees. If the photographer says they will personally photograph the wedding, make sure it is stated in the contract. If another photographer will be doing this, request a meeting with that person and review photos from other events before making a decision. Be clear about the fees and understand what services are included. If the photographer will be working with an assistant, make sure that expense is included in the total fee. A written contract that details every service to be provided should be obtained, including the name of the photographer, location, date and time length of all events, the type of photo package, a list of guaranteed prices for enlargements and any additional charges.

The Town of Prescott Valley is looking to fill some volunteer positions. The town is currently accepting applications from residents to serve a term on the Planning and Zoning Commission that expires on October 31st, 2013; one Community Alternate Appointee position on the Personnel Board that expires on April 25th, 2012; a position on the Library Board of Trustees that expires on June 30th, 2013 and a position on the Municipal Property Corporation Board of Directors that expires on November 18th, 2013. These are positions appointed by Council and residents must live and reside within Town limits. Applications are available Monday through Thursday from 7:30 to 5:30 at the Town Manager’s office on the 4th floor of the Civic Center on East Civic Circle.
