To qualify, undergraduates must be enrolled full time with a minimum of 12 semester hours and must earn a grade point average of 3.65 or better on a 4.0 scale.

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is a four-year university and part of The Texas A&M University System. The student-oriented university has around 10,000 students and provided bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral degrees.

Kelly Carson of Cedar Park, daughter of Jim and Lisa Carson of Cedar Park and granddaughter of Joy and Kit Carson of Gonzales, has been named to the Dean’s Honor Roll of Scholars at the University of North Texas. She has earned a 3.5 grade-point average on a course load of 12 or more hours during the past semester. She will graduate in August and is employed at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi administration and athletic department dedicated the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon in front of a crowd of nearly 100 spectators.

The state-of-the-art facility is one of the finest in the Southland Conference as well as one of the best in the nation. The $2.4 million center was made possible in part by a $500,000 gift from Corpus Christi attorney Thomas J. Henry. The complex includes 12 tennis courts built to NCAA specifications with a top-of-the-line Musco lighting system, an exterior public address system, security fence and a 220-car parking lot.

“It’s a wonderful day for my family and myself to step up to the court on the Momentum Campus and help enrich our community and the university,” said Henry. “I live down the street and this will be very easy to come to and watch tournaments, and I hope they’re winning tournaments.

“I can tell (Director of Tennis) Steve Moore is a very intense gentleman – he wants to win – and a good tennis program with a winning record in the future is going to help develop this university. I want to thank Texas A&M – Corpus Christi for allowing me to help be part of their tennis program and be part of this facility.”

For his part, Moore was grateful for the opportunity his team will have going forward to play at one of the premier facilities in the country after playing on several different courts since he returned to become the Director of Tennis at the Island University.

“On behalf of all of our student-athletes, the men’s and women’s tennis teams, and also the kids at the university who attend camps here, I can’t begin to express the gratitude we have for this state-of-the-art, premier tennis facility,” said Moore. “The potential that we have to run major tournaments, major college events, is unlimited.

“So, to Mr. Henry, for making this happen, our gratitude for your generosity is unmatched.”

The Islanders will host an ITA-sanctioned tournament during the fall at the facility and will begin dual-match play at the facility during the spring of 2012.
