TNT Drives Ratings Gains With NASCAR Sprint Cup Coverage
. The race, for the fifth consecutive year, will feature TNT's Wide Open coverage, which debuted during the 2007 Daytona 400 race and has resulted in only nine missed laps of green flag racing in four years, and zero laps over the last two. The format provides continuous race coverage free of national commercial breaks and features more than 20% unobstructed race action, than that of a standard telecast, by using a letterbox widescreen format, which allows for a continuous scroll of race information. In place of the national ads, the telecast features a variety of animated sponsor messages, branded content and distinct on-screen graphic elements. Turner Sports was the first to deploy uninterrupted NASCAR race coverage when TBS rolled out side-by-side coverage on Oct. 8, 2000 with its presentation of UAW-GM Quality 500 from Charlotte.The six national sponsors featured in this year's innovative telecast: Coke Zero, Coors Light, Pfizer, Sprint, Toyota, Warner Brothers Films' Horrible Bosses and Crazy, Stupid, Love . According to Nielsen IAG Research, advertisements featured during the 2010 TNT NASCAR Wide Open race delivered a 68% brand recall score, a significantly higher recall percentage when compared to standard ads featured during sports and NASCAR coverage.

The network will rev up its pre-race coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. (ET) with Countdown to Green delivered by Pizza Hut with Lindsay Czarniak serving as host and Kyle Petty and Larry McReynolds as analysts. TNT's "Pride of NASCAR" series will feature a profile of the three-time National Motorsports Press Association Driver of the Year Cale Yarborough, who won the Daytona 500 four times. Joining the studio show prior to the race will be Kevin Harvick for an interview to talk about his season. Other pre-race features include McReynolds in a wind tunnel with No. 14 Tony Stewart's crew chief Darian Grubb to explain how the two-car draft works and why it's important at Daytona International Speedway.

At one end of the Infineon Raceway garage area, Brian Vickers' No. 83 Toyota was missing its hood but being prepared to return to the Toyota Save Mart 350.
About 100 yards away, Tony Stewart's No. 14 Chevrolet was missing its rear end but its driver and team owner wasn't budging from his seat, regardless of how far behind he was as the race wound down.
Stewart and Vickers had made their points - and had the damaged cars to prove it.
It began on Lap 37 when Vickers was going into Turn 11, the hairpin turn at the end of the road course just before the start-finish line. Stewart locked onto Vickers' rear bumper, causing a spin that eventually involved six cars and set the tone for what would happen later in the day.
Stewart was matter of fact about what led him to push Vickers in the crowded corner.
"I dumped him earlier for blocking and he got me back later on," Stewart said. "If they block, they are going to get dumped. It is real simple.
"I mean, I don't blame him for dumping us back. But I don't race guys that way. I never have. If guys want to block, then they are going to get wrecked every time. Until NASCAR makes a rule against it, I am going to dump them every time for it.
"He did what he had to do. There is nothing wrong with it."
Stewart said it didn't matter that it was Vickers. He would have done the same thing to anyone, including Ryan Newman who drives for his Stewart-Haas team.
"I like Brian," Stewart said. "I'm not holding it against him at all. ... I would have dumped (Newman) too. If they want to block, that's what's going to happen every time for the rest of my career."
The race rolled on but, obviously, Vickers hadn't forgotten what happened.
"You know, he wrecked me - and I wrecked him back," Vickers said.
As he and Stewart approached Turn 11 again on Lap 87, Vickers allowed the No. 14 to pass him. He then pulled behind him going into the turn and sent Stewart barreling into the tires along the outside of the turn. Stewart carried so much speed into the turn that his car backed into the tires and climbed the barrier.
By the time Stewart's crunched car came to a stop, its rear end was about five feet off the ground, stuck in the tires, requiring safety crews to lower it.
"I thought his throttle stuck or the brakes went out," runner-up Jeff Gordon said of what he thought when he saw Stewart's car where it was.
